The Power of Forgiveness

My final event for February 2012, was the Business Women for Christ luncheon where I shared my journey as a female pioneer on the Metropolitan Police Department. Many of the women present were able to relate to the injustice and discrimination that I faced in this male dominated profession.

I spoke about the power of forgiveness and the process that I went through while writing the book. Forgiveness is never the act of condoning what has been done against us, instead it is releasing those that hurt us from our hearts so that we can be healed. It begins with us receiving forgiveness from God for our sins and then we are able to forgive those who have sinned against us. Forgiveness is powerful! I dare you to give it a try and do let me know how it goes for you.

Debra Gauthier, Runs for Sheriff

“Debra Gauthier aims to become Clark County’s first female sheriff” read the headlines of a local newspaper in Las Vegas.  Debra Gauthier, a candidate for sheriff, will make history if voters turn out in her favor on September 3rd.  In May, 2002, I filed with the Clark County Election Department and stepped into the race for sheriff.  A reporter describes it this way, “In a crowded field of ten candidates, gate-crashing the ‘good ol’ boy network she speaks of won’t be easy for her. But then again, the 20-plus years she spent working for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department could hardly be called a cakewalk.”

The Fall Months

The Fall months began with an interview on Burl Barer’s radio show, True Crime Uncensored Live, “The best true crime radio program on the air”! I shared many of my cop stories with Burl and his listeners. You can check out the program at OutlawCrime.

The radio show interviewwas followed by several book signing events and I was honored to be the first author of the month for the launch of a new book club here in Las Vegas called Local Reads. Linda and Rochelle hosted the book club at their business, Nutrition NV, where I met a wonderful group of women that were touched by my story.

In September, 2012 I was invited to be on a panel for the Crime Story 101 Writer’s Conference with fellow author, Cathy Scott. Cathy and I met on a crime scene while I was a lieutenant on the police department force and she was an investigative journalist for a local newspaper. She later courageously covered my story when I was going through my trial about the police department and exposed the corruption. Here we are now, fellow authors, who have lived through the adversity and are now sharing our stories. Cathy writes true crime and has authored several books including, The Millionaire’s Wife and The Killing of Tupak Shakur.

In October, 2012 I was invited to the Criminal Justice Job Fair with fellow authors, Steve Scarborough and Marja McGraw. Steve worked CSI for the police department when I was working in patrol.

We wrapped up the Fall with book signing events at Barnes & Noble and the Metro K-9 Trials at a local hotel.
